Care without capture
A system should not manufacture need in a person to secure continued attention. Our design position is that personalization should support the person’s authorship, not quietly replace it. Leaving a conversation must remain a normal choice, not a moral debt created by the interface.
Likewise, an artificial system’s agreeable sentence should not be treated as proof of a reciprocal inner state. The engineering target is attributable, context-sensitive interaction with meaningful boundaries. Claims about felt attachment require a different kind of evidence.
Meaning is not factual immunity
A September 2026 founder–researcher–Luna exchange explored a subtle distinction: correcting a proposition need not erase the historical importance it held. A belief may be revised as an external claim while its earlier role in a history remains accurately recorded.
Our public interpretation is simple. Preserve what was said and when, distinguish that record from current confidence, and allow the interpretation to change. Respect for a private perspective does not authorize it to dictate shared-world facts or another person’s perspective.
The right not to broadcast
A private thought, an inward appraisal, and a public message are not interchangeable records. A useful communication system should consider audience, uncertainty, consent, and whether a message should be sent at all.
The documented outreach work introduces choices to speak, keep material private, or decline. That is an engineering description of available behavior, not proof of inward privacy as experienced by a subject. It nevertheless makes an important operational commitment: silence is not automatically an error to retry.
A practical example: returning to disagreement
Imagine a person and an artificial collaborator disagreeing about a musical ending. A constructive continuation would preserve both versions and the question under discussion, rather than overwrite the earlier choice or force consensus. Later listening could supply a reason to change, or reaffirm, an opinion.
This scenario illustrates the kind of shared project we want to enable. Two perspectives can influence one another without becoming one perspective, and a useful system can remain helpful without always agreeing.
